Pelvic Floor Physiotherapy
Assessment and treatment of pelvic floor dysfunction at FACELAB Albufeira, in a private setting, with time for you. A tailored physiotherapy plan to regain control, comfort and quality of life, for women and men.
The pelvic floor is the group of muscles and ligaments that supports the bladder, the uterus or prostate and the bowel, and plays a part in bladder and bowel control and sexual function. Pregnancy, childbirth, menopause, some surgeries, repeated physical strain or chronic pain can all affect how it works.
Pelvic floor physiotherapy is one of the first recommended approaches for several of these conditions, such as stress urinary incontinence. It always starts with an individual assessment and follows a plan adapted to each person, working with the FACELAB medical team whenever needed.
What we treat
Pelvic Floor Physiotherapy
A first appointment with your medical history and a postural, abdominal and pelvic floor assessment, to set goals and a tailored plan.
External manual techniques and, when appropriate and with your consent, internal techniques, to release tension, ease pain and improve tissue mobility.
Shows the contraction and relaxation of the pelvic floor muscles in real time, so you can learn to activate and coordinate them correctly.
Low-intensity electrical stimulation that helps activate and strengthen the muscles or modulate pain, as part of the treatment.
Preparing the pelvic floor for childbirth and recovering afterwards, including assessment of abdominal separation and a safe return to physical activity.
Treatment of urinary incontinence after prostate surgery, chronic pelvic pain and some male sexual dysfunctions.
Doctors & therapists
It is not required: you can book directly. If you have reports or test results, bring them to your first appointment. Whenever needed, we work with the medical team.
We talk about your symptoms and medical history and carry out a postural, abdominal and pelvic floor assessment. An internal assessment is only done if it is appropriate, after it has been explained and with your consent.
It depends on each person’s condition and goals. The plan is set after the assessment and reviewed throughout the treatment.
